The most recent addition to the Invested Faith Advisory Board is the Honorable Jane Campbell, the first and to date the only woman to serve as Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio. She now serves as the President and CEO of the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, the congressionally chartered nonprofit dedicated to sharing, in a manner that inspires “informed patriotism,” the stories of the people, art, and architecture of the U.S. Capitol. The Society is currently collecting oral histories from the Congressional community about experiences on January 6, 2021, providing civic education and public history programs, and working to build a better understanding of the dreams of the founders of the country to build a More Perfect Union.

Campbell’s public service career includes serving as the first woman Mayor of Cleveland, five years as county commissioner for Ohio’s largest county, six terms in the Ohio House of Representatives and a term on the Regional Transit Authority Board. Her public service focused on economic development, fiscal stability, child welfare, and health and human services policy. She established Ohio’s first Brownfield Loan program and carried the legislation to finance both Cleveland sports stadiums. After successfully implementing welfare reform, Governing Magazine honored Campbell as 2000 Public Official of the Year. Campbell also served as President of the National Conference of State Legislators. More recently she served on the Steering Committee for the National Democratic Institute’s effort to support women Mayors around the globe.

Following her time in elected office she was a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and ran a small business providing economic development consulting in Northeast Ohio. The recession and the election of President Obama inspired her to come to Washington, DC, in 2009. From 2009-13 Campbell served as Chief of Staff for Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), leading efforts to recover from both Hurricane Katrina and the Gulf oil spill. In 2014 Campbell became Staff Director for the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, where she directed policy to support small businesses’ access to capital, federal contracting opportunities, business counseling,and engagement in international trade. Later, as Senior Advisor to Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Campbell led the committee’s work on access to capital and women’s entrepreneurship.

Campbell is the immediate past president of Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), a coalition of women business organizations advocating for federal policy to support women entrepreneurs.

Campbell continues to serve as Senior Advisor at the International Economic Development Council, the country’s largest organization of economic development professionals, on the Boards of the Lincoln Land Policy Institute and the Faith and Politics Institute, and is an Elder at National City Christian Church.

She’s the proud momma of a resident doctor and a Yale divinity graduate. Just recently she got her favorite title yet – grandma.
