R&R Marketplace
Dellwood, MO
Refuge and Restoration (R&R) Marketplace is a redevelopment project in the Dellwood community of Ferguson, MO. Repurposing a strip mall that has been abandoned for 20 years, the R&R team are creating an equitable access community hub that will include an early child development center, a bank, co-working space, as well as a church and needed community social service offices. This innovative system-linking holistic hub will help build community and foster economic development.
Ferguson, MO is a predominantly Black community that became the focus of national attention after the fatal shooting of Michael Brown an unarmed African American teenager by Darren Wilson, a white police officer. The community of Dellwood lacks much needed business development and social services for residents. Refuge and Restoration holistically addresses the pervasive economic and social distress which negatively affects this urban community.
R&R Marketplace will be developed in phases. Phase One includes the Brilliant Angels Academy early childhood center set to open May 2024, an Employ St. Louis career development center, a St. Louis County Innovation/job training center, Midwest Bank’s first Innovation Center, an addiction treatment center and the R&R Multiples which can host church and community events. The Invested Faith grant will support the co-working space which will offer equitable access space for Black small businesses to help them scale and build capacity.
